Kate and Marilyn had been best friends since they were little, both had been very confident about their decisions and clear about their personalities until they enter to secondary next year. Marilyn had been acting differently since Flannery was becoming her new best friend and both were leaving Kate apart. Flannery was one year older than Marilyn, she was in 7th grade and she always was trying to control Marilyn as a puppet. Soon was going to be halloween and Flannery had planned everything so that Kate and Marilyn deseed up as she wanted to. She wanted to dress up with a valentines theme, she and Marilyn were going to dress up as hearts and Kate was going to be a cupid. One day, when Kate was coming back from school, she saw an ambulance next to her house and saw Tracie, her sister, yelling her name with a very preoccupied face. Their dad had a heart attack. Luckily, their dad was fine and his heart attack was just because of his stress. When halloweens day arrive Kate wasn't dressed as Flannery said, she was the queen of hearts, while Marilyn did dressed as Flannery said and both were giant hearts.
When Kate was at the hospital she was very nervous and felt exactly as I did when something similar happened to my grandmother. "Kate wished she could cry, just so her dad wouldn't think Tracie loved him more than I did." My grandma had a heart attack about two years ago, one day after my birthday but I didn't cried either. The fact I didn't cried for her didn't mean I didn't loved her it just meant that I was trying to be brave and strong for her. I'm sure that Kate's dad understood that, even though Kate didn't mean to stay strong for him, she showed a very mature way to handle hard situations.
It is very common to say that : "Sometimes things don't go as planned." All though, I think it's meaning is completely true. The things that don't go as planned are a lot more exciting than the things that are. Nothing goes exactly as planned even if we wish it would. We always need to adapt and solve the problems instead of causing a bigger one.
Sometimes things happen in the least expected moment but we always need to adapt to it and accept the problems or consequences. We might take the most mature and strong way to handle things even without noticing it. s the time passes and we grow, we start noticing the little things that life give us and one of them is the privilege to have a family and friends. Some people may have parents who actually died from a heart attack or "friends" who don't even tell them to join them in halloween. We always need to appreciate those little things like keeping a tear for yourself instead of showing it to everybody or accepting that sometimes things don't go as planned.
